BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Michael Pezzetta scored the decisive shootout goal and the Montreal Canadiens avoided playoff elimination by rallying to a 4-3 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Monday night.Brendan Gallagher forced overtime by scoring his 200th career goal in capping a 3-on-2 rush with a shot from the right circle 8:35 into the third period. Jordan Harris and Alex Belzile also scored for Montreal, and Jake Allen stopped 30 shots through overtime, while allowing one goal on six shootout attempts.Montreal would have been eliminated from playoff contention for a second straight season — and two years removed from reaching the Stanley Cup Final — with any type of loss.Lukas Rousek scored a goal and added an assist in his NHL debut for Buffalo, which dropped to 3-6-3 in its past 12 and blew a chance to move to within four points of the idle Pittsburgh Penguins, who hold the eighth and final playoff spot.Defenseman Riley Stillman and JJ Peterka also scored for Buffalo, while Eric Comrie...

He later described it as “a weird sensation.”The 25-year-old McKenzie went 11-11 with a 2.96 ERA in 31 games last season, helping the Guardians pull away in their division. PHOENIX (AP) — Dan Snyder’s future in the NFL as owner of the Washington Commanders remains in standby mode while his peers gathered at a posh resort for the league’s annual meetings and waited for news on the potential sale of the team.A discussion on Snyder isn’t on the formal agenda this week, three people familiar with those details told The Associated Press on Monday. Still, Snyder was a hot topic of conversation despite his absence and even while quarterback Lamar Jackson’s trade request dominated headlines.“I think he’s put the team up for sale. I believe that something is close to happening,” New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft said. “I don’t know that for sure. We’ll wait and see what happens.”Canadian billionaire Steve Apostolopoulos recently joined groups led by Josh Harris and Tilman Fertitta to bid on purchasing the Commanders. Once Snyder accepts an offer, he must submit the bidder’s name to the NFL for approval. That hasn’t happened yet, a person told the AP.Last ...

Why did Fort Collins see 10 inches of snow while Denver only had an inch?

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 03:44:03 GMT

DENVER (KDVR ) -- A snowstorm pushed through Colorado Monday morning, bringing big totals to parts of the northern Front Range and only an inch or two to most of Metro Denver. Windsor, Colorado saw some of the biggest totals with up to 11 inches of snow. Denver International Airport, the official measuring site for the city of Denver, saw 1.4 inches, while parts of the Palmer Divide saw less than an inch. But why was there such a big difference in totals for places that are only about 60 miles apart? The main answer is how wind direction plays a role during snowstorms here on the Front Range. Below is a snapshot of Satellite and Radar at about 7:42 a.m. Monday morning. It shows what meteorologists call a convergence line. This is when winds from two different directions collide, forcing the air upwards, and helping to develop heavier precipitation. The northern Front Range saw a convergence line along with upslope winds out of the east helping to boost totals. In Denver, winds out of...

DENVER (KDVR) – Five more Colorado families have joined a lawsuit against the manufacturer of the gun used in the King Soopers mass shooting in March 2021.“You know, they want justice for their family members. That’s why they joined this suit, and if this does anything to prevent this from happening to someone like them, or what happened today in Nashville, that’s all anyone can do,” Attorney Andrew Garza, lead attorney representing the families, told FOX31.The families Suzanne Fountain, Neven Stanisic, Denny Stong, Lynn Murray, Jody Waters and Kevin Mahoney are all now suing Sturm, Ruger & Co. The suit is expected to be filed in Superior Court in Stamford, Connecticut later this week.Lawyers for the families claim Sturm, Ruger & Co. marketed the weapon used in the shooting that killed 10 people at the Boulder supermarket in a way that promoted its ability to kill, and glorified lone gunmen.“This case, we believe the evidence will show they marketed what were effectively sho...

More Borgen, less Sherlock: Europe cracks down on British TV

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 03:44:03 GMT

It’s a question worthy of a great TV detective: can streamers like Netflix still guarantee a certain proportion of European content if the goalposts are suddenly moved to exclude hits like Sherlock and Doctor Who?They may soon have to, as the European Commission is considering removing the U.K. from the list of countries recognized as providing “European” content, according to a policy paper seen by POLITICO. That would put broadcasters and streaming platforms in a tight spot, as the U.K. is among the biggest contributors to their European catalogs.“The need to re-define the concept of European works has been raised in the context of Brexit. It is arguable that, since the U.K. is no longer a member of the EU, works originating in the U.K. should no longer be considered as European,” said the paper. It also raised the idea of cutting Switzerland from the scope of European works.Under the Audiovisual Media Services Directive, television and streaming must include a share of R...
