While it is known that many Californians looking to leave the Golden State often choose Texas as their new home, new statistics indicate that a growing number of Texans are making their home in California.Data obtained from the United States Census Bureau by the Houston Chronicle on state-to-state migration shows that California welcomed 42,279 Texans as new residents, the most of any state moving into California. One major motivator when it comes to relocating is how much residents are paid; according to Forbes, the average salary in Texas for 2023 is $57,300, which ranks 24th in the nation. The average Californian’s salary is $73,220, which is third highest in America only behind New York ($74,870) and Massachusetts ($76,600).  Young and wealthy Californians leaving the region for other states, study says Forbes analysts say that the average annual salary across the U.S. is $59,428 -- around $2,000 more than the average Texas resident -- meaning that Texans "often requ...

Draymond Green doesn’t regret Rudy Gobert headlock, says NBA’s special punishment is unfair

Published Thu, 20 Feb 2025 18:55:23 GMT

SAN FRANCISCO — Draymond Green defended his headlock of Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert last week that earned him an ejection and five-game suspension, which expired in time for the Warriors’ in-season tournament game against the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday. The league suspension came with a note that severity was “based in part on Green’s history of unsportsmanlike acts,” a clause Green argues is unfair, referencing the retroactive one-game suspension he earned for an entanglement with LeBron James in the 2016 NBA Finals. The league implemented the Green-specific rule after he stepped on Kings’ Domantas Sabonis’ chest escaping his grasp during last season’s playoff series.“To continue saying, ‘Oh, what he did in the past..’ I paid for those,” Green said after Warriors practice on Sunday. “I got suspended for Game 5 of the Finals. So you can’t keep suspending me for those actions.“They’ve made it clear that t...

LONDON (AP) — Irish writer Paul Lynch won the Booker Prize for fiction on Sunday with what judges called a “soul-shattering” novel about a woman’s struggle to protect her family as Ireland collapses into totalitarianism and war.“Prophet Song,” set in a dystopian fictional version of Dublin, was awarded the 50,000-pound ($63,000) literary prize at a ceremony in London. Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh is ready to take less money if it means college football players and other athletes would be paid.“For the players to be compensated, I’m using my voice, and I would take less money for the players to have a share. I hope other coaches would use their voice to express the same thing,” Harbaugh said Sunday.Harbaugh, a longtime advocate for paying players, made his comment during a news conference to preview his team’s Big Ten championship game against Iowa on Saturday in Indianapolis. He said he was reminded of the sacrifice athletes make when offensive lineman Zak Zinter broke his leg in the third quarter of the Wolverines’ 30-24 win over Ohio State.“Who can be against the players being compensated for what they do, or at least even minimum wage? I mean, who could argue against that when there’s injury or not?” said Harbaugh, whose base salary is $7.63 million this year with an additional $3 million in bonuses possible.Athletes are...
