MILWAUKEE (AP) — Freddy Peralta struck out 13 to match his career high and allowed just one hit over seven innings in the Milwaukee Brewers’ 12-1 blowout of the Colorado Rockies on Monday night.“What was fun for me was I knew that I had a lot of strikeouts today but I had no idea about how many,” Peralta said. “When I finished, Big Woo (teammate Brandon Woodruff) came in and he told me, ‘You can only strike out 13?’ I didn’t know that. I had no idea.”Milwaukee’s Sal Frelick went 2 for 3 with a three-run homer, scored three times and had four RBIs. Brice Turang and Tyrone Taylor also went deep. For Nigeria’s Super Falcons, a narrow Women’s World Cup exit is the start of a journey, not the end

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 09:09:30 GMT

BRISBANE, Australia (AP) — Chiamaka Nnadozie’s Nigeria lineup had two chances hit the crossbar in a scoreless draw, and only missed out on the Women’s World Cup quarterfinals after losing a penalty shootout against England.By taking the European champions right to the wire, the Super Falcons proved, once again, that rankings are less important than respect for rival teams under the tournament’s expanded 32-team format. In the group stage, Nigeria held Olympic champion Canada to a 0-0 draw, upset co-host Australia 3-2 and advanced to the knockout stage after a 0-0 draw with Ireland. A late red card for England forward Lauren James for stomping on Nigeria defender Michelle Alozie took the focus off two tight halves of football on Monday night that could have gone either way. Ashleigh Plumptre’s left-foot strike cannoned into the crossbar in the 17th minute and her right-foot shot, moments after the ball rebounded, forced a diving save from England goalkeeper Mary Earps. A step too far. Lauren James shown a red card in England’s Women’s World Cup win over Nigeria

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 09:09:30 GMT

BRISBANE, Australia (AP) — One wrong step cost Lauren James any chance of playing in the Women’s World Cup quarterfinals, and very easily could have ended England’s progress in the tournament. The 21-year-old forward was shown a red card for violent conduct late in regulation time on Monday in a tense round-of-16 game against Nigeria, leaving England in a 10-on-11 scenario for more than a half-hour before it ended 0-0 after extra time.Rachel Daly was one of the successful penalty takers as European champion England won the shootout 4-2 to secure a spot in the next round, and later put an arm around James to console her young teammate. The extraordinary ejection happened after James lost possession in a contest with defender Michelle Alozie in the 84th minute. After losing her balance and falling on top of Alozie, James pushed herself up and then stepped on the Nigeria defender with the studs of her right boot.“She’s disappointed. She’s upset. She’s a young player and I thi...

Drivers are now required to move over for these cars

Editor's note: This story has been updated to reflect speed limits when passing stopped vehicles if moving over isn't possible.DENVER (KDVR) -- If you've ever driven on Colorado roads, you have probably seen the signs that tell you to move over or slow down for emergency and maintenance vehicles, or for trucks putting on chains. You'll be required to move over and slow down for any vehicle with its hazard lights on.The new change is because HB 23-1123, which passed with bipartisan support in March and was signed into law soon after, will go into effect. What is the move over, slow down law?Essentially, when you see a vehicle on the side of the road that the law applies to, you have to move over so there's one lane of buffer between you and the vehicle. Ben Kingsley crafts his own fable for ‘Jules’

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 09:09:30 GMT

The little alien in “Jules” parks its spaceship in the backyard of the aged, quiet Milton (Ben Kingsley).Surprisingly human-like — imagine a rope dancer in Cirque du Soleil – it’s a benign presence.  At least at first. For Kingsley, 79, retiree Milton may be slipping into Alzheimer’s.  He’s certainly the flipside of the actor’s flamboyantly eccentric Salvador Dali last spring. “I loved portraying Salvador Dali who was exhausting and exhilarating at the same time,” the Oscar winner began in a Zoom interview prior to the current actors’ strike.“Milton is the opposite of Dali — the invisible man who’s neither seen nor heard. A man of very little significance. A man who can stand up and speak to the council but can only get their intention by saying something extraordinary. And even then they don’t believe him! They think he’s delusional.“So it was a tremendous leap from one trapeze to another. But also a leap away from myself into Milton. Because actors ten...

Jeimer Candelario has been ‘a real seamless fit so far’ with a Chicago Cubs offense that was rolling before his addition

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 09:09:30 GMT

The Chicago Cubs didn’t bring in infielder Jeimer Candelario to jump-start the offense. The Cubs, who began a six-game trip Monday against the New York Mets at Citi Field, already had the best run-producing offense since the All-Star break when they acquired Candelario last week from the Washington Nationals. His addition has made the lineup deeper with a tough, switch-hitting out.Candelario has been able to play without the expectation of needing to help get the Cubs offense on track.“It’s definitely taken (away) any pressure of he’s got to be the savior of the offense coming in and where he’s fit in the lineup,” manager David Ross said Monday. “Also his personality, the way he goes about his business, has been really evident from the time I knew him and his journey through his career and just fitting in nicely.“He’s been a really nice addition and it seems like a real seamless fit so far.”Candelario hit in the No. 6 spot M...
